This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in accounting and seeking professional recognition, including tax agents, accounts managers and business analysts; and to employees performing a range of accounts management tasks for organisations in a range of industries. At this level individuals are expected to apply theoretical and technical skills in a range of situations and to display initiative and judgement in planning activities. They have autonomy in performing complex operations and can be responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating the work of others within broad but generally well-defined parameters.

Licensing/Regulatory Information

Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.

This qualification includes units that comprise an approved Tax Practitioner Board (TPB) course in Australian taxation law and commercial law, which are relevant for registration as a tax agent. Persons seeking registration with the TPB should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

Victorian Institute of Education has the following entry requirements (This may vary depending on the source country's assessment level & subsequent risk level):

International students must:

  • Be at least 17 years of age and have completed Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
  • Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
    • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
    • Successful completion of an English Placement Test

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

Our current (as of May 2022) Admissions requirements for Assessment Level 1 countries like Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia etc (as long as these countries are on assessment Lvl 1) are:

  • GPA 75% or pass mark for Phillipines, GPA 70%for Indonesia. (Note: If your student source country is Lvl 1, our GPA requirement for Lvl 1 country would be the pass mark % as per the source country education requirement).
  • No IELTS/PTE required. Online LLN test will be provided to the student to complete
  • Updated CV/Resume
  • Provide documentry evidence / explanation for gaps or breaks in between academic and/or work experience
  • No dependants. Application with family has to apply as single applicant at time of application. Dependants should be declared in the visa application.

The qualification is delivered over 52 weeks comprising of:

  • Four (4) terms of 10 weeks each (40 weeks total).
  • Holiday breaks amounting to 12 weeks (as specified in the timetable)
  • Students are required to attend 13.5 hours of classroom training per week and complete structured self-study of 6.5 hours per week.

Homework is expected to be approximately 5 hours a week.

The training and assessment schedule shows the weeks during which training is delivered and assessment conducted for each unit.

The total amount of training provided being structured classroom sessions is 317.5 hours and for structured self-study is 260 hours. Time scheduled for assessment in class is 222.5 hours. Homework which is unsupervised and may include research for assessments and general reading is expected to be on average 5 hours a week.

Potential employment options include tax agents, accounts managers and business analysts and other accounting management roles across a range of industries.

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into a range of other Graduate Diploma level qualifications in accounting or financial services.

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge, and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning). The granting of course credit may affect course fees, as well as the duration of the course.
